About the Role:
We are seeking an Associate Lighting Designer to lead and manage lighting design across multiple concurrent projects, working closely with the Principal and a team of lighting designers.
This is a hands-on, technical and creative role. You will own layouts, specifications, coordination, and on-site follow-through, ensuring that design intent survives all the way from DD through final focus. If you are equally comfortable in AutoCAD, in client meetings, and on a ladder during aiming sessions, you’re the profile we’re looking for.
Within 12 months, success looks like: you reliably manage several active projects, protect design quality, stay on top of budgets and phases, and are the “go-to” for coordinating with project teams and vendors.
Primary Responsibility
• Create lighting layouts, fixture specifications, lighting submittals, and ordering cut sheets
• Develop preliminary lighting control system layouts and Ketra circuiting detail
• Produce design review plans and add circuiting, power supplies, and fixture tags to lighting plans
• Respond to lighting sketch / coordination requests and update drawings accordingly
• Attend internal project meetings, capture decisions, and translate changes into updated lighting layouts
• Manage multiple plan sets across multiple projects and track progress against phase and budget
• Monitor project phases, track lighting design tasks by phase, and accurately log project time
• Set daily priorities to meet project deadlines
• Delegate specification and drafting tasks to the internal design team where appropriate
• Communicate critical project details with the Principal and design team
• Vet new lighting and control products with the team
• Build strong relationships with external design and construction partners
• Attend external project meetings, documenting any items that affect the lighting design
• Perform site visits / site supervision to verify installation
• Conduct final lighting adjustments and focusing at project completion
Required:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in residential or commercial lighting design or electrical engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or Electrical Engineering preferred
• Strong, verifiable computer skills in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Experience with Revit, InDesign, and 3D rendering a plus
• Current knowledge of residential or commercial lighting products and controls
• Current knowledge of California Title 24 Energy Code
• Excellent verbal communication skills, with confidence interfacing with clients and project teams
• Strong written communication skills
• Proven ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
• Experience with residential lighting manufacturers
• Experience with electrical design a plus
• Ability to climb and perform work on ladders
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Ideal Values & Skills:
• Enthusiastic, professional attitude
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time across multiple projects
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Genuine passion for architectural lighting design
Compensation and Benefits
• We offer competitive compensation commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package, within a stable, design-focused studio environment. Specific details will be shared during the interview process.
