The Office of the NYS Comptroller, led by Thomas P. DiNapoli, is seeking a Data Analyst 1 to evaluate government programs and assess risks associated with them. The role involves researching data sources, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting findings to management with conclusions and recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Use technical and analytical skills to evaluate a range of government programs and program areas including policy, procedures, operations, objectives and cost effectiveness to determine actual or potential risk
- Research, identify, and evaluate data sources to determine reliability or usability limitations
- Collect, manipulate, analyze, and interpret data, and present results to supervision, covering conclusions and recommendations based on evaluations made
Skills
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- A bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools
- A master's degree or higher in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- A bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND two (2) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools
- A master's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools
- A Ph.D. in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Proficient at conducting data processing, data formatting, and data analysis
- Have computer programming experience (e.g., R, Python, Java, C++)
- Strong critical thinking and professional judgement
- Strong analytical thinker with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
