What You'll Do
As a Lead Data Engineer at arenaflex, you'll play a pivotal role in designing and constructing our enterprise data infrastructure. Your contributions will span multiple critical areas:
- Data Product Development: Contribute to the design and construction of scalable data products and data warehouses specifically focused on Engagement and Retention Analysis and Data Science initiatives
- Scalable Solutions Architecture: Design and develop enterprise-grade data warehousing solutions, building robust ETL pipelines in Big Data environments spanning cloud, on-premises, and hybrid configurations
- Technology Stack Implementation: Work with our industry-leading technology stack including Hadoop, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, and Airflow, utilizing programming languages such as Python and Scala
- Data Architecture Leadership: Help engineer comprehensive data solutions and frameworks while defining data models for our critical data warehouse and data mart implementations
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Data Product Managers, Data Modelers, and Data Engineers to design, implement, and deliver successful data solutions that meet business objectives
- Documentation Excellence: Maintain detailed documentation of your work and system changes to ensure data quality and robust data governance practices
- Operational Excellence: Ensure high operational efficiency and quality of your solutions to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintain commitment to our internal clients including Data Science and Data Analysis teams
- Agile Participation: Be an active member and advocate of agile/scrum practices, contributing to team health and continuous process improvements
Key Capabilities & Technical Skills
We're seeking a technically proficient professional with a strong foundation in enterprise data engineering. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Advanced SQL Expertise: Strong SQL skills with the ability to construct complex queries to extract data and build high-performance datasets optimized for analytical workloads
- Distributed Systems Proficiency: Hands-on experience with distributed computing systems such as Databricks, Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, Spark, PySpark) to query and process large-scale data efficiently
- Programming Mastery: Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with the ability to develop scalable data processing solutions
- Cloud Database Experience: Experience with at least one major MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) or cloud database technology such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery
- Data Pipeline Expertise: Strong experience with data integration toolsets (particularly Apache Airflow) and developing, writing, and maintaining robust data pipelines
- Data Modeling Excellence: Solid understanding of Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing standard methodologies, frameworks, and best practices
- Agile Methodology Familiarity: Comfortable working within Scrum and Agile development environments
- Problem-Solving Acumen: Natural problem-solver with strong attention to detail and excellent analytical and communication skills
- Cloud Platform Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS services including S3, EMR, and EC2 is highly desirable
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in data engineering, ETL development, or related technical roles
- Proven track record of leading data engineering projects and mentoring junior team members
Preferred Background
- Experience in the entertainment, streaming, or media industry is a significant advantage
- Previous experience working with large-scale data platforms serving millions of users
- Familiarity with machine learning infrastructure and MLOps practices
