About the Role
As a Principal Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in guiding the creation, implementation, and support of data analysis and machine learning (ML) solutions for our attractions and guest experience platforms. You will work closely with internal partners to deliver elite visitor experiences through intelligent and data-driven systems across the arenaflex ecosystem.
You will report to the Attractions Functional Innovation team and be responsible for fostering and developing relationships with colleagues, providing thought leadership, and driving initiatives to completion effectively and efficiently. This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance technical excellence with business acumen and collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Machine Learning Initiatives: Engage with research teams and colleagues to drive ML strategies, and identify areas where business problems can be solved creatively through the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and work alongside other engineers and data scientists to execute and scale ML solutions that create magical experiences for our visitors while pushing the boundaries of operational goals.
- Innovation & Research: Drive innovative development, proofs of concept, technology investments, and client interactions that lead to building world-class AI platforms that elevate the guest experience.
- Operational Support: Oversee the operational support and maintenance of ML-related products and services delivered by the team, ensuring reliability and performance at scale.
- Process Development: Build standard procedures used in daily operations and work with specialized units to design, plan, and execute large-scale projects in the AI and ML space.
- Model Productionization: Productionize ML algorithms in predictive analytics, clustering, image recognition, natural language processing (NLP), anomaly detection, and other advanced techniques, evaluating their performance on real-world datasets.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with diverse teams to achieve goals in improving system performance and deliver exceptional results.
- Software Engineering Excellence: Coordinate with existing software practices that produce maintainable code, including automated testing, continuous integration, code style consistency, and thorough code reviews.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with business partners to understand requirements, translate technical concepts into business value, and ensure alignment between technical solutions and organizational objectives.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Expertise: A minimum of 2+ years of demonstrated mastery in Python and experience with predictive modeling using frameworks such as TensorFlow, SparkMLib, PyTorch, LightGBM, MXNet, or similar advanced ML libraries.
- Cloud Platform Proficiency: 2+ years of deep expertise with cloud platforms, specifically AWS (Amazon Web Services) and GCP (Google Cloud Platform), including deploying and managing ML workloads in cloud environments.
- Software Development Skills: Proficiency in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), QA processes, and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) design patterns.
- Data Engineering: Extensive experience working with both structured and unstructured data—including images, video, text, audio, and more—as well as proficiency with SQL, relational databases, and NoSQL database systems.
- Data Workflow Management: 2+ years of experience with workflow management tools such as Apache Airflow or similar data orchestration platforms.
- Version Control & MLOps: Hands-on experience with version control systems like GitHub and GitLab, Model Operations (MLOps), and CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) pipelines.
- Discovery & Requirements: Proven experience leading discovery processes with partners to identify business requirements and define expected outcomes, coupled with strong interpersonal communication skills and a results-oriented mindset.
- Systems Integration: Strong systems integration and architecture skills, with the ability to translate emerging technologies into practical business solutions.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Experience with configuration management tools and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud solutions, particularly in GCP or other major cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools including Jira and Confluence for project management and collaboration.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and Scrum frameworks.
- Strong background in automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous development practices.
- Proficiency with data visualization and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Plotly, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Experience with audio analysis, signal processing, and acoustic data modeling.
- Experience with text analysis, natural language understanding, and text mining techniques.
- Experience in the entertainment, hospitality, or tourism industry is a plus but not required.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Programming, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Preferred: Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Statistics, Programming, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical discipline.
