They are seeking an Integration Developer to build and maintain workflows on a Scheduling Event Bus Platform for the Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring seamless data exchange for appointment scheduling through secure APIs and event-driven development.
Responsibilities
- Build, configure, and maintain scalable event-driven pipelines and message streaming applications utilizing Java and Apache Kafka to route, synchronize, and log real-time appointment data across distributed applications
- Develop and integrate secure RESTful APIs, data fabrics, and service endpoints connecting web, mobile, and third-party healthcare scheduling platforms
- Follow modern Spec-Driven Design paradigms, utilizing exact technical specifications and AI-assisted development tools to implement clean, well-documented, and performant backend code efficiently
- Participate actively in SAFe Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospective sessions, providing transparency into velocity and delivery timelines
- Assist in maintaining platform uptime by writing automated tests, troubleshooting message delivery errors, resolving code defects, and collaborating with DevSecOps engineers on CI/CD deployments
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in backend software development with a heavy focus on enterprise integration
- Strong production-level proficiency in Java and related enterprise frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot)
- Hands-on experience developing data pipelines or stream processing workflows with Apache Kafka
- Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, structured message formatting, and log analysis
- Familiarity with containerization concepts (Docker) and deploying services to cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
- Experience operating within an Agile/Scrum development lifecycle
- Excellent technical problem-solving, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust clearance
- Experience working with federal or military environments, specifically the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or U.S. Army
- Familiarity with Low-Code/No-Code (LCNC) environments and configuring workflow integrations with platforms like Appian
- Experience with DevSecOps automation, CI/CD pipelines, and basic observability/monitoring suites (e.g., Splunk, Prometheus, Datadog)
- Familiarity with healthcare data interoperability models and standard routing workflows
