The Intern is responsible for supporting departmental projects and daily operations while gaining practical experience in a healthcare environment.
Responsibilities

- Assist with administrative tasks, research projects, data collection, process improvement initiatives, and other assignments designed to provide exposure to healthcare operations and value-based care delivery
- Learn how to support departmental administrative and operational functions within a value-based healthcare organization
- Learn how to contribute to special projects and continuous process improvement initiatives
- Learn how to conduct research, gather information, and compile findings to support business and operational decision-making
- Learn how to accurately enter, maintain, and report data while supporting departmental recordkeeping
- Learn how to participate effectively in team meetings by contributing ideas, observations, and recommendations
- Learn how to prepare professional presentations, reports, and project summaries for leadership and departmental use
- Learn how to support member outreach, engagement, and care coordination activities, as assigned
- Learn how to organize, maintain, and manage electronic and physical documents in accordance with organizational standards
- Learn how to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across multiple departments to support organizational initiatives
- Learn how to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee, patient, and organizational information in compliance with HIPAA and company policies
- Learn how to prioritize assignments, manage multiple responsibilities, and complete work within established timelines
- Learn how to build professional competencies by participating in training, mentoring, and career development opportunities throughout the internship
- Successfully complete and present an end-of-semester (or seasonal) capstone project that demonstrates innovation, process improvement, research findings, or operational recommendations applicable to their assigned department
- Demonstrate mastery of the Learning and Development competencies established at the beginning of the internship through practical application and supervisor evaluation
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of PonosCare's physician-led, value-based care model and its impact on improving member outcomes and reducing healthcare disparities
- Demonstrate professional growth in communication, critical thinking, collaboration, accountability, and organizational effectiveness within a healthcare environment
- Successfully collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, gaining exposure to clinical, operational, administrative, and leadership functions across the organization
- Apply knowledge gained throughout the internship to support operational excellence, quality improvement initiatives, and member-centered service delivery
- Exhibit professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with organizational policies, including HIPAA, privacy, and ethical standards
- Build meaningful relationships with mentors and leadership while actively participating in coaching, feedback sessions, and professional development opportunities
- Complete an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) identifying career goals, strengths, growth opportunities, and a roadmap for continued professional advancement
- Receive a formal end-of-internship performance evaluation that measures competency development, achievement of learning objectives, and overall program success
- Become eligible for inclusion in the PonosCare Emerging Talent Pipeline, providing high-performing interns with priority consideration for future internships, part-time employment, clinical rotations, fellowships, or full-time career opportunities
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing an Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree (preferred)
- High School students for community service or work study programs
- Preferred majors include: Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Informatics, Information Technology, Pharmacy, Communications or related field
- Interest in healthcare, value-based care, and population health preferred
