About the Role Tabbed is looking for a Senior Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of critical product and platform features. Reporting to the CTO, this is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on owning delivery from concept through production, while setting a high bar for system design, code quality, and execution. This role combines deep technical ownership, architectural thinking, and leadership through example. This role is expected to elevate the entire engineering team by driving clarity, applying strong design principles, and consistently delivering high-quality, reliable systems in a complex environment (payments + POS + location). What You’ll Do Own features end-to-end, from initial concept and design through implementation, deployment, and iteration Design and build scalable, reliable systems across backend, integrations, and infrastructure Apply strong system design principles to ensure maintainability, performance, and long-term scalability Write clean, well-structured, and well-tested code while setting a high standard for code quality across the team Drive technical direction within projects, making pragmatic decisions that balance speed and reliability Partner closely with product, operations, and business teams to deliver impactful features Identify and proactively address risks across payments, POS integrations, and location systems Improve development workflows, tooling, and engineering standards to increase team velocity and quality Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and mentorship to elevate overall team execution Help define and reinforce best practices around observability, monitoring, and production reliability What We’re Looking For Required 5–10+ years of software engineering experience in high-quality production environments Proven ability to own and deliver complex features or systems end-to-end Strong hands-on experience with modern stacks (TypeScript, Node.js, APIs, cloud infrastructure) Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and core computer science fundamentals Deep understanding of system design, design patterns, scalability, performance, and industry best practices Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code Strong product and execution mindset with attention to detail in real-world systems Ability to operate independently and drive projects forward without heavy oversight Strongly Preferred Experience with restaurant technology, POS systems, or hospitality infrastructure Experience with payments systems, fintech, or transaction-heavy platforms Experience integrating third-party systems and APIs in production environments Familiarity with real-time or location-based systems Experience influencing engineering standards and improving team-wide execution Tech Stack Frontend: Typescript, React Native (Expo), React / Next.js Backend: Typescript, Node.js (NestJS), REST + GraphQL Data: PostgreSQL, Redis Infrastructure: Google Cloud, Terraform, Pulumi Integrations: Stripe, Toast, Aloha, Micros, Square What Success Looks Like High-quality, reliable feature delivery with clear ownership from start to finish Well-designed systems that scale with growing venues and user demand Reduced failures across payments and POS integrations through thoughtful engineering Noticeable improvement in code quality, structure, and team execution standards Strong technical leadership through example, raising the bar for the entire team Why Tabbed Build at the intersection of payments, real-world behavior, and hospitality Own critical infrastructure that directly impacts real customer experiences Small, focused team with strong product momentum Opportunity to have outsized impact as a senior IC shaping both systems and engineering standards Additional Context This role operates in high-sensitivity systems where failures directly impact real-world transactions.
