Position Overview
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Strategic Marketing Analyst to support our category management initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to planned sales, gross margin, and market share growth within assigned product categories. You will analyze market data, integrate findings into strategic category plans, and drive the execution of everyday plan activities to ensure commercial success.
This is a part-time position requiring approximately 8 hours per day, with the flexibility to work remotely while maintaining close collaboration with our Rhode Island-based team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of driving results in a retail or consumer goods environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Strategic Marketing Analyst at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with meaningful responsibilities that directly impact our commercial performance:
- Drive Sales and Margin Performance: Contribute directly to sales and margin objectives within your assigned category, developing strategies that optimize product mix and profitability while meeting customer demands.
- Data Analysis and Insights: Analyze relevant market data and integrate findings into comprehensive Category Plans, including optimal SKU assortment recommendations, loyalty program strategies, and promotional initiatives that resonate with our customers.
- Strategic Execution: Lead the tactical execution of everyday plan activities, including off-rack merchandising plans, tracking promotional periods, and conducting performance analysis to make timely corrective actions when necessary.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal experts across multiple departments including Inventory, Pricing, Promotion, Finance, Store Brands, Store Design, Advertising, and Store Operations to ensure alignment and maximize category performance.
- Sales and Inventory Analysis: Analyze sales records and inventory levels of current stock to identify trends, opportunities, and potential challenges in your category portfolio.
- Competitive Intelligence: Maintain a strong understanding of current competitive landscape, actively seeking out new competitive opportunities and making strategic recommendations to stay ahead of market trends.
- Market Intelligence: Stay up to date with changes in the market, including consumer preferences, competitor activities, and industry developments that may impact category performance.
- Customer and Supplier Research: Research customer product preferences, supplier pricing dynamics, and the competitive environment to inform category strategies and sourcing decisions.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following essential qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in analytics or category management are a plus.
- Retail Mathematics Proficiency: Working knowledge of retail math concepts with demonstrated application in previous roles. You should be comfortable with margin calculations, inventory turns, and sales forecasting methodologies.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills for data analysis, PowerPoint for presentation development, and Word for business communication. Experience with Access or other database systems is highly desirable.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 5-10% of the time to support field activities, partner meetings, and corporate initiatives.
