Position Overview: Research & Design Consultant
As a Research & Design Consultant within our Network Planning division, you'll play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our route networks and flight scheduling processes. This position requires a unique blend of analytical prowess, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills.
You'll work cross-functionally with teams across the organization to identify efficiencies, analyze complex datasets, and develop actionable insights that drive business performance. Your contributions will directly influence our scheduling approaches, fleet planning, operational viability simulations, and overall network connectivity.

Key Responsibilities
As a key member of our Network Planning team, you will be responsible for:
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate effectively with teams and leaders within Network Planning and across various Business Units to ensure alignment on multiple initiatives and projects. Build strong relationships with stakeholders to drive collective success.
- Data Analysis & Insights: Analyze complex schedules and large datasets to identify relevant insights for stakeholders. Synthesize massive amounts of information using advanced analytical tools and techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities.
- Analytical Tool Proficiency: Utilize SQL, Microsoft Access, Excel, Tableau, Alteryx, and other data platforms to extract, manipulate, and analyze data. Transform raw data into meaningful information that informs strategic decisions.
- Presentation Development: Develop high-quality, timely presentation materials that effectively communicate findings and recommendations to Senior Leaders and key stakeholders. Create compelling visualizations that tell the story behind the data.
- Strategic Analysis: Analyze historical profitability and performance metrics to gain insight into future performance. Use predictive modeling and forecasting techniques to anticipate market trends and customer demands.
- Network Design Innovation: Contribute to the progressive improvement of alternative network designs, connectivity systems, scheduling approaches, and operational enhancements. This includes workstreams related to future fleet plans, forecasted facility needs, labor and staffing optimizations, and business opportunity assessments.
- Business Impact Assessment: Deliver analysis and solutions that demonstrate clear understanding of business problems and their broader impact across the organization. Ensure recommendations align with overall company strategy and objectives.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate recommendations and results to department and Commercial/Operational Leaders using a communication approach tailored to the intended audience. Deliver recommended courses of action with robust visualizations that aid in conveying the story behind the data.
- Project Leadership: Lead projects from beginning to end, independently managing timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations. Engage effectively with Subject Matter Experts throughout the organization.
- Additional Duties: Perform other job responsibilities as directed by leadership, contributing to the overall success of the team and organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Business & Management Acumen: Strong knowledge of business and management concepts involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, management techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Advanced Data Analysis: Skilled in reading complex datasets quickly to extract insightful information. Ability to work with large volumes of data and identify meaningful patterns and trends.
- Presentation Excellence: Skilled in creating PowerPoint presentations and other visual materials to present data and findings relevant to the audience. Ability to share insights clearly, concisely, and compellingly.
- Communication & Influence: Skilled in communicating and influencing, with the ability to engage directly and effectively with various teams, including Individual Contributors, Leadership, and Senior Leadership.
- Project Management: Ability to lead a project from beginning to end independently and engage with Subject Matter Experts. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to leverage outputs from schedule forecasting, optimization, and simulation tools to provide feedback on future schedules. Familiarity with analytical and visualization platforms.
- Adaptability: Ability to manage effectively through ambiguous and unstructured issues or situations that often require quick resolution. Capability to navigate easily between big-picture thinking and attention to relevant detail.
- Initiative & Proactivity: Ability to produce results quickly with minimal guidance. Demonstrates a self-starter mindset to discover next steps and opportunities. Goes the extra mile to deliver exceptional work.

- Data Visualization: Ability to collect, organize, visualize, and assimilate data, including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software.
- Strategic Application: Ability to recognize the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Applies data to contribute to the business strategic plan.
- Written & Verbal Communication: Ability to listen to, understand, and communicate ideas provided in writing and/or in speaking with others. Strong documentation skills.

We are seeking candidates with advanced-level experience and specialized expertise in the following areas:
- Aviation Industry Knowledge: Experience in quantitative roles within the aviation or transportation industry. Understanding of airline operations, route networks, and scheduling complexities.
- Solution Development: Proven experience identifying and developing solutions to address business and operational issues. Track record of implementing meaningful improvements.
- Visualization Platforms: Advanced proficiency with presentation and visualization platforms including Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar tools.
- Data Platforms: Hands-on experience with data access and analytical platforms, particularly SQL and Alteryx. Ability to write complex queries and manipulate large datasets.
- Operations Analysis: Experience in transportation operations, traffic analysis, or profitability analysis. Understanding of key performance indicators and metrics in the aviation sector.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, especially in developing and delivering high-quality presentations. Experience presenting to diverse audiences across organizational levels.
- Analytics Expertise: Strong analytics skills with the ability to pull and analyze complex data effectively to report insights. Experience translating data into actionable business recommendations.
