Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.
Our Payments division, Operations and ITSM Office is seeking a Senior Business Analyst, Service Analytics and Reporting to deliver and support the practice of iterative, methodical exploration of an organization's data – with an emphasis on automation, statistical analysis and application of data, information, knowledge, LEAN, wisdom framework – to build capability and enable the organization to make evidence based decisions, solve tactical problems and answer strategic questions through capturing, processing and analyzing data while extracting business insights.
What will I be doing?
- Designs and develops reporting tools to support Payments (PRESTO’s) ability to extract business insights and service performance
- Designs and develops dashboards for various audiences – executives, product owners, clients, Operations teams to support decision making and solving complex problems as they relate to service delivery
- Liaises with clients and vendors to understand the needs and capabilities of data mining, analysis and subsequent reporting and data interpretation
- Analyzes all available data sources to be used in support of desired reporting outcomes while adopting concepts around Big Data
- Integrates reports from various origins into meaningful dashboards that are fit for use and fit for purpose
- Recommends and makes use of reporting methods, best practices and frameworks
- Identifies opportunities to shift focus from data collection to embedding analytical functionality into systems and applications
- Explores, researches, makes recommendations and champions the use of advanced tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning while demonstrating value to product owners, clients and other stakeholders
- Embrace new ways of knowing by rising business demand for analytics
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders on operational, tactical, strategic and executive levels to elicit requirements, engaging in feasibility studies, pilots and presenting final outcomes
- Champion new ways of knowing while leveraging advanced tools and challenging traditional methods and processes
- Identifies, develops, manages, and executes analytical projects designed to uncover areas of business opportunity for Payments stakeholders and Payments product owners and subsequently develop business recommendations
- Makes recommendations that promotes financial sustainability and promotes mandate of operational efficiency
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Process Improvement, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in the transport or construction industry and / or the public sector
- Ability to perform data mining and interpret data by applying frameworks. Experience with computerized quantitative and analytical tools (e.g. data modeling, workflows, and business process analysis) and with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
- Ability to use variety of analytics tools including design of service management dashboards
- Oral/written/presentation communication skills
- Ability to identify continual improvement opportunities and champion them
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies and their applications with various stakeholders
- Working knowledge of gathering and documenting report requirements / methodology and processes. Experience with UAT
- Working knowledge of process optimization techniques
- Ability to elicit information from various stakeholders
